The Story

It was a lovely October’s day when Adam + Bill decided to have an intimate wedding. Their chosen venue, Pleasant Home, was located in Oak Park Illinois and designed in 1897 by George W. Maher. The Prairie-style home was originally designed for an “investment banker and philanthropist John W. Farson and his wife Mamie Ashworth Farson”.

“Maher was a contemporary of world-renowned Prairie School architects Joseph Lyman Silsbee, Frank Lloyd Wright and George Grant Elmslie. He designed more than 300 distinguished structures in the United States; Pleasant Home is the only Maher building open to the public as a museum.” – You can read more about this stunning property here.

Anyhoo, as the title of today’s feature suggests “8-week wedding”, this wedding was orgnised within a epically short time frame. And I’ll have to say, I’m pretty impressed with what the boys and their vendors came up with.

But first, a little about these two love-birds…
Adam and Bill had been together for 13 years before they decided to tie the knot. The boys met at in 2002 at University and have been inseparatable ever since. Their photographer go on to say this about the boys:
“Adam adores Bill’s smile, his humor and how he makes others feel special. Bill adores Adam’s selflessness, his humor and of course…his DIMPLES!”

On their ceremony + reception

Adam and Bill opted for a “mix of traditional and modern elements utilizing local vendors” theme for their wedding.

“Our ceremony was a simple wedding ceremony. We didn’t want a church ceremony or something with a lot of formality. We also didn’t want groomsmen or any attendants. We wanted it to be simple and special to us.”

The boys chose a close friend to officiate the ceremony, four other close friends to give blessings and reading and “Bill’s niece and nephew served as ring bearers”.

They walked down the aisle together, exchanged vows and rings “then we sealed it all with a kiss and a walk back down the aisle, hand in hand.”

“Our reception was also on the simple and casual side. We used the main floor of the mansion, along with its outdoor covered porch for cocktail hour and dinner and did a selection of passed her d’eourves with three food stations {yes, three!!!} that were open for dinner along with wedding cake and a spectacular pie bar for dessert.”

Their choice in music was also a little unique, a string quartet that played today’s tunes. “We chose them because of their ability to play contemporary music on traditional instruments. It was awesome to hear our favorite pop and rock songs played by a string quartet throughout the night.”

“The event had this masculine warmth to it. From the architecture of the mansion with its wood paneling, stained glass and intricate moldings and painted ceilings, to the glow of the antique light fixtures, fireplaces and our selection of brown, silver and white mercury glass candleholders, to the interesting floral arrangement of grasses, pods and orchids, the décor and environment lent itself to a very autumnal, masculine, welcoming feel.”

On their attire

Adam and Bill chose suits that complimented each other in glorious plaid! Adam wore blue on blue (navy suit and a royal blue tie to be precise) and Bill wore the brown on red. Their fetching attire was complimented with some gorgeous fall inspired Boutonnière.

On their photographers

“Beyond being great people who make the planning process easy and are always patient and available, Abhishek and Payal took photos that are amazing. They captured the moments and details of our wedding in a way that truly showcased the essence of us as a couple, our love, our families and the wedding and reception. I couldn’t be more pleased with the images, their quality, and the wonderful service Bokéh Studios provided.”

Most memorable moment?

“The most memorable moment was the reading of our vows. We had both written our own vows and had kept them secret from each other. It turned out we both included some of the same stories in our vows, making them that much more special.” Nawwww!

Wedding planning tips for the readers?

1. “Don’t overthink things. We planned our wedding in eight weeks and although that seems quick, I was second guessing decisions by the sixth week. There are so many options out there for everything wedding and the best thing you can do is choose what you love, decide on it and then stick to your decision. Sure, there might be a better invitation design, or a more interesting floral design, but you can’t stress out searching for those items. Research what you’re looking for, find a vendor you like, and then trust them.” YES!

2. “Our other piece of advice is to have a clear vision for what you want things to look like. Once you have that, and can convey it to vendors, it makes it easier for everyone to make selections.” GOLD!!

3. “And our last bit of advice is to just enjoy your wedding. The entire day flies by so quickly. Spend time with your family and friends, enjoy all the love that surrounds you on this special day and forget about the details, checking with vendors, or stressing out about things that might go wrong. Trust your vendors to do a great job and enjoy being the center of attention with your partner on one of the most memorable occasions in your life.” F YEAH!!!

Adam and Bill, what a wonderfully warm day that it was. Big BIG congratulations to you both on enbarking on the next chapter of your lives together. And big ups for doing it in 8 short weeks!!

Fun facts: I'm a "loud" little Latin gurl. I heart my label maker as much as I do my partner. I also like red things, leg-day and red velvet everything. My daily vocab includes "have you eaten?", "I love you" and "I farted"... not all at once or in that order. If I'm not talking to you about feelings I'd be helping you organise something.
