Hillary & Danna (aka DJ Whitney Day) are acapella singing, cat loving, travel-obsessed University of Massachusetts alum currently living a bi-coastal life between NY and LA, they met 10 years ago in their college female acapella group and have stuck together since that fateful audition day.
Their wedding didn’t have a theme per se, it was a very ‘City’, and ultimately traditional (as much as it can be for a lesbian couple) wedding. They wore cream and light pink shades, with the flowers mostly dahlias of various hues and succulents with candles dispersed throughout the arrangements. Nothing was DIY, though we had MANY friends involved in the wedding – Erica as Our Photographer, our friend Sean DJ’d the reception, another friend designed and hand-press printed the invitations.
The couple are both Jewish, so they incorporated some traditions such as stomping the glass, drinking from the Kiddish cup (though theirs was filled with passionfruit juice instead of wine!) and doing the ceremony under a Chuppah (canopy). They also walked down the isle wth their parents giving them away and recited vows to one another.
“As a lesbian couple this was one of the most challenging parts. We each had our idea of what we wanted, and though Hillary bought the first dress she tried on, Danna had her heart set on a dapper style, more reflective of her personal fashion sense. Danna ended up with a gorgeous Roberto Cavalli suit – silk, cream colored with light pink flower design embellishments. Hillary wore a light pink / rose Vera Wang gown. They were both exceptional and complimentary to one another.”
“Full of LOVE! Lots of laughter and dancing throughout the evening. All of our family & friends celebrating around us made it just the best day ever. The ceremony was beautiful – outdoors at a converted Brooklyn warehouse – followed by the cocktail hour also outside. Afterwards, we headed indoors to a brick-walled, high-ceilinged, and candle-lit atmosphere for dinner and partying! It was hands down the best day of both of our lives.”
“Erica is not only a friend, but luckily for us, an incredibly talented friend. We always loved her photos – from the weddings to her travel blog that follows her globe-trotting life-style. She’s also a ton of fun to have at a party, so we knew it was a perfect fit for our special day to have her as our photographer.”
