The Story

Back in May this year a photographer by the name of Julia Kinnunen captured “the perfection that is Justin and Dakota” at their relaxed and dreamy beachside wedding. Julia goes on to say about these two gorgeous humans… “These two are the most brilliant example of what real love looks like”, and I could not agree with her more!

The Couple

Justin: “We met on Facebook in 2010. I had mutual friends with Dakota and thought he was cute, so I added him. We talked on Facebook, Skype and texted for about 4 months before we met on my 20th Birthday. We have been together for 5 years.”

“We haven’t spent a night alone (or day for that matter) pretty much since we started dating and we were not about to break that streak. On the day of the wedding, instead of not seeing each other before the ceremony, we decided to instead not share any kisses until the big kiss at the ceremony. If you know us, you would know how difficult this feat would be to pull off! ;)”

The Wedding Day

“Every minute seemed to tick by as we waited patiently until it was time to head to get ready for the big day. The whole wedding party got together and got ready and drank lots of mimosas, while reminiscing about old times and talking of what was to come!”

The grooms wore white while their wedding party wore vibrant colours of blue, green and purple. “We wanted to paint a picture of the perfect beach wedding, and that of course included white linen. We wore matching white linen shirts, and white linen skinny pants with a cuffed leg.”

“The time had finally come to head to the beach to set up and do some before pictures with Julia.”

“We let out some of Justin’s mother’s ashes into the sea with Justin’s brother, Jordan, before heading back up to begin the ceremony. Walking down the aisle with our parents was a surreal moment, time seemed to freeze.”

“We were barefoot and requested in the invitations that our guests be barefoot as well, and had a basket for shoes at the entrance to the beach at the lifeguard tower. We wanted to create a casual yet still intimate feel.”

“As we watched the guests arrive, the nerves set in that it was actually happening.”

“Staring into each other’s eyes, we listened to the words of our officiant, Carly (Dakota’s best friend since Pre-K & first girlfriend) as she recited the words of Bob Marley, and the traditional ‘I do’s’ with our own twist.”

“Before we knew it, we had kissed, been pronounced married and husbands and were on our way to the reception.”

And married, F YEAH!!!!

“Cocktail hour on the grassy patio overlooking the flower fields…”

“…and the gorgeous Grand Pacific Palisades was a great start to the festivities of the night.”

“We made our grand entrance to Bruno Mars ‘Uptown Funk’ and walking to the head table looking at all our loved ones faces smiling and clapping for us was a beautiful feeling. We shared drinks, toasts and had an excellent little feast before beginning dancing! We started off with our first dance, ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri, a tear jerker for both of the grooms :P”

“We continued the dances with a special mother-son dance ‘Because you loved me’ by Celine Dion, which was homage to the strong women who raised us and always taught us to be who we are and loved us no matter what!”

“Shortly after everyone began dancing, we snuck away with Julia (our amazing photographer) and got some sunset photos overlooking the flower field with the sea and the city behind us. A magical first sunset with my new husband!”

“The rest of the evening was a beautiful blur or dancing, laughing, drinking and love! We couldn’t have asked for more!”

The Photographer

“We love how personable she is. At no point did she ever “pose” us or tell us where to go or what to do. She was always in the right place at the right time and captured the magic in every moment! People say that it’s all us that make the photos, but Julia knows exactly how to capture the essence of true love and without her amazing skills, our day wouldn’t have been documented the same way!”

Tips for the readers

“Give yourself time! We were engaged for over a year, and planning the whole time, and it was needed! I don’t know how people plan a wedding in 3 months! We didn’t have a wedding planner or coordinator either, we did it all ourselves! It was stressful, but so fun and exciting! Getting to learn the details that I never even thought of! I at one time had 5 different wedding checklists going to make sure I was on track, and luckily there are endless amounts of resources available online! Google is your bff ;) Most importantly, have fun! Try not to stress! Enjoy your day together and feel the love!!”

Dakota and Justin massive congrats on your beautiful and love-filled wedding day. Truck loads more love coming your way from F* Yeah!!!

Fun facts: I'm a "loud" little Latin gurl. I heart my label maker as much as I do my partner. I also like red things, leg-day and red velvet everything. My daily vocab includes "have you eaten?", "I love you" and "I farted"... not all at once or in that order. If I'm not talking to you about feelings I'd be helping you organise something.
