WARNING: girl crushes coming your way!
Guys meet Nicila “the kick arse one with short red hair and the nanna cardigan” and Mel “the one that actually looks female” who are today’s crush-a-liscious featured couple. The girls decided to have an engagement photoshoot at the Roma Street Parkland in Brisbane (Queensland), at the recommendation of their lovely photographer Malin, of Willow Branch Photography.
But first, a little about these two cuties…
“I’m a personal trainer. Mel and I met during a comp prep I did in 2014. She was working at the studio, I was eating nothing and delirious – we fell in love over a joint appreciation for Zaraffa’s Iced Americanos.” Lol.
“For the first time EVER, I managed to keep a secret contacting all of our closest friends and family and had them send in photos of themselves holding signs saying ‘will you’ – the brief was ‘the more creative, the better’ – surprisingly, only two photos came back with them in the nude… haha.
The day I proposed, I wanted everything to be surreal – at this stage she still had no idea – so we woke up, trained and then on the way home I stopped by this awesome little coffee shop near our house and bought her a coffee and flowers (I thought she would have got suss at me volunteering to not pay on the joint account… but by this stage she still seemed unaware haha).”
“After breakfast we both left for work and I literally could not sit still all day! From memory it was a Tuesday and the Wednesday was a public holiday so I knew it was perfect timing.
I am the most impatient person in the world so I proposed the day I picked up the ring. As soon as the store rang to say it was in I went across to grab it then went home to make everything perfect.
Once she got home, I had dinner waiting and then suggested we watch a movie. When she sat down it flicked to the recording I had put together using all of our friends photos.”
“It started with a movie style intro saying ‘a day in the life of Nicila and Mel’ and then rolled through photos of us and reasons why I loved her. This part had our favourite song playing in the back and although surprised, she still thought I was just being an egg… then it switched to Bruno Mars ‘I think I want to marry you’ and began flicking through our friend’s photos.
Mel is not much of a crier, but I’m fairly certain I caught at least a semi kind of attempt at a tear haha. It ended with her three nieces sliding down a slide holding signs saying ‘will’, ‘you’ and ‘marry me’ and then I threw the ring at her face and said that she didn’t have a choice. Well, not exactly like that but she said yes anyway! Haha.”
“This was our first shoot together and Malin was AMAZING! We couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable person to do it with and she was always so quick to return the edits – which is the absolute best thing when you’re excited to see photos. We even got lollies with our USB of photos. Pretty much the best thing ever!”
“Making us go to a shopping centre so I could buy an entire new outfit because I wasn’t happy with what I was wearing, but we had already left home. Also saying ‘let’s not eat too much today so we can go out for dinner afterwards’ and then smashing chocolate shakes right before we met Malin… #classic”
Nicila and Mel, congrats on your engagement and good luck with your wedding plans!!
